Just like the rest of the world, the Yankees were in mourning when they found out Yogi Berra passed away last night at the age of 90. And the past and current players offered their condolences as well as their favorite memories of the late catcher, either via the media or via Twitter.

Alex Rodriguez: “Yogi, I learned so much from you. To a teacher, a friend and a great Yankee, you’ll be missed. ”

Brett Gardner: “He always called me Shorty. He’s Yogi Berra, he could call me whatever he wants.”

Andy Pettitte: “[Yogi] embraced me from the first day I met him. Heck, he embraced everyone he met.”

Ron Guidry: “All I know is every time I hear the word ‘baseball,’ I think of Yogi.”

Bobby Richardson: “What can I say about Yogi? He was a friend and a wonderful clutch hitter.”

Whitey Ford: “[Yogi] was at his best late in the game when you needed him most.”

Didi Gregorius: “Today we lost the best catcher in history Yogi Berra… Gone but never forgotten for all you have done R.I.P”

CC Sabathia: “Blessed to have known you. You are a true hero and legend and will always be in our hearts.”

Wade Boggs: “Thoughts and prayers go out Yogi’s family and friends you’ll be dearly missed my friend. I guess God needed someone to catch a double header.”

Paul O’Neill: “Rest in peace, Yogi. I will never forget our talks together! You are an American hero… I will truly miss you.”

Bernie Williams: “What a Beautiful Man…What A Beautiful Spirit. Celebrate the Life of Yogi Berra Today.”

Al Leiter” RIP Yogi. I’m grateful I got to know him. What a nice man.

The Yankees and Blue Jays will have a moment of silence for Berra and the Yankees will hold a pregame ceremony tomorrow evening before their game against the Chicago White Sox.
